Daylight savings time change is coming up, and you know what that means: It’s time to change the batteries in all of your smoke detectors. We do this regularly to ensure our safety, but many of us use daylight savings time changes as an easy reminder of the necessary schedule for the sake of convenience.
You can take a similar approach to improve your marketing.
In the spirit of recharging, below are a few ways you can optimize your schedule for better marketing:
- Security Checkups on All of Your Online Business Accounts
You should be checking your bank accounts daily and checking up on other potential security threats at least weekly. Okay, truthfully, it should be about as often as you blink…but that’s not a realistic expectation. - Posting on Your Social Media Accounts
Posting multiple times a week on a variety of platforms may seem daunting. However, there are scheduling apps for that. We recommend having a monthly social media calendar as a guide. - Adding Blog Posts to Your Website
As you may have guessed, we recommend doing this while you have your Monday Morning Coffee each week. Posting at least weekly helps keep your content fresh and your SERP positioning high. - A Refresh for Your Brand
There is no hard and fast rule to this, but a brand’s visual identity typically lasts 7-10 years. When was your last brand refresh? There may be a variety of factors leading you to rebrand sooner, such as a merger or acquisition. Alternatively, your brand may have a stellar reputation with excellent recognition, leading you to avoid rebranding for a longer period. It’s kind of like investing in a new car; the better the quality, the longer it will serve you well. - Sending out Newsletters
This can vary from business to business, but most go with monthly online or printed newsletters. This aligns with monthly inventory audits, supply orders and paying utility bills. - Auditing Your Website for Needed Changes
We recommend doing a website audit at least every 6-12 months, about as frequently as dental cleanings and smoke detector battery changes. - Checking Collateral for Brand Consistency
Monitoring for brand consistency should be part of the content creation process. However, it doesn’t hurt to do a monthly audit for consistency. That’s about as often as having your pet professionally groomed or book club meetings. - Review Your Strategic Plan
This should be done at least quarterly, about as often as most people change the oil in their cars.
Regularly scheduling these marketing tasks allows you to incorporate them into the rest of your schedule and avoid getting overwhelmed. Knowing what you need when allows you to avoid disasters, much like changing the batteries in your smoke detector. Add the tasks to your calendar and create space to accomplish them. Then, you can go through the rest of the year energized with a fresh outlook.
If these tasks feel like too much, you can always contact SJC Marketing for assistance. We would love to help you take charge of your marketing.
